Welcome to our International Coffee Morning!

Join us each month for coffee, cakes and chat in the centre of Helsingborg – all internationals are welcome! This is a perfect way to get to know other people in the local community and to build your network.

Hanna and Hedwig will be there to welcome us at Bruket Kaffebar. It’s an individual enterprise, run by two local people who love good food and sustainability. You’ll find fresh home-made goodies and an excellent choice of teas and coffees to buy there. We love it!

This event is jointly hosted by Helsingborg International Connections and the International School of Helsingborg Parent Teacher Association. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Tuesday 26 November 17:00 – Helsingborg Business Forum #3: Understanding Taxation

Welcome to the Helsingborg Business Forum – a space where we learn about entrepreneurship and business in Helsingborg.

The Helsingborg Business Forum is a joint venture by Peers Bridge, Helsingborg International Connections, Helsingborg Business Community and Open Space Mindpark.

Through the events held under this forum, once every month, you will have the opportunity to meet different entrepreneurs, advisors and investors and hopefully create a strong network in the business world of Helsingborg.

We are back with our third event – Understanding Taxation in Sweden. If you are interested in setting up your own business or already have one, the taxation system can come across as quite complicated and confusing. Through this event, we aim to make it easier for you to understand how it all works.

The event will be held at the Auditorium, Open Space Mindpark.

HIC at Open Space: Drop-in for Internationals is a monthly open session where you can come and ask any questions you may have about living and working in Helsingborg.

We’ve helped answer a wide range of queries from many local international residents and can point you in the right direction if you need further information. No question is too big or too small. Our team are Swedish and English, ensuring a good mix of local and international knowledge!

You can swing by THINK Open Space with your questions on the last Tuesday of every month in term-time, between 09:00 and 12:00. You can also find out more about HIC and our activities. There’s always a friendly face waiting for you – just look for Sally, Åsa or Leo at the big white table!

Thursday 21 November 10:00 – Christmas Wreaths at Fredriksdal

Welcome to a lovely festive activity, wreath-making at Fredriksdal Open-Air Museum and Botanical Garden!

The talented staff at Fredriksdal will show us how to make our own Christmas wreaths, which you’ll be able to take home and proudly display on your door!

Please note that we need a minimum of 10 people for this event to take place and that we will require payment with your order. Final numbers are needed by Wednesday 6th November. We will not be able to give refunds after that date, but you may transfer your ticket to someone else. Maximum group size is 15.

Thursday 14 November 17:00 – Understanding Unions and Employment Insurance in Sweden

HIC is hosting an information evening for those of you who are new to the Swedish labour market or who would like to know more about work life in Sweden.

On Thursday 14th November we will host a presentation by Magnus Rothman from Unionen.

Unionen was formed on 1st January 2008 when two unions, HIF and Sif, joined together to form not only Sweden’s biggest trade union but also the biggest ‘white-collar’ trade union in the world.

 Some of the topics being presented include:

  • The Swedish work model
  • Collective agreements for employees
  • Advantages of joining a trade union
  • What services and tools are offered by a Unionen to help you find work in Sweden

The presentation will take place at the auditorium at Drottninggatan 7A and should last around 45 minutes. There will also be a question and answer session afterwards.

In addition there will also be a presentation by Graham Keating on the Swedish unemployment compensation system Arbetslöshetskassa, or a-kassa as it is known, and other areas of the unemployment compensation system in Sweden.

Some of the topics presented include:

  • Why you should join an a-kassa
  • How to qualify to be an a-kassa member
  • What are the benefits of being in an a-kassa
  • How long a-kassa pays unemployment benefit for
  • Other forms of unemployment compensation available

The presentation should last between 30-45 minutes and there will also be a question and answer session afterwards.
