Wednesday 14 October 18:00 – Linkedin Workshop at Idé A

Looking for the secrets to success in the business world? One of the tools used by many professionals is Linkedin, the online social network which helps you “link in” with potential business partners, find a job, connect with previous colleagues, follow up on and store the valuable contacts made in your daily work life, and much more.
During our workshop, we will be talking about what LinkedIn is and how you can find interesting forums for discussion, ways of connecting with others with similar experience to yours and grow your professional network. The event will be hosted in Swedish, but questions and information in English are always welcome. If you already have a LinkedIn profile and would like to share it with us, please send a link to

Our speaker Fairooz Al-Tamimi, Project Management Consultant and Enabler, will talk about her journey from brand new arrival in Sweden just a few years ago, to author, columnist, entrepreneur and facilitator. She will talk about some of the obstacles she has had to overcome, and explain how networking and active engagement in her new surroundings have helped her progress to the stage she is at today.

HIC co-founder Jenny Wieslander Chandler will talk about the importance of a Linkedin profile in Sweden, and give tips on professional networking.

Free entry. Coffee, tea and sandwiches will be provided.

18:00 – 20:00

Venue details: Idé A, Drottninghögs Bibliotek, Blåkullagatan 3, 25457 Helsingborg

Please sign up here by Monday 11 October

5 – 9 August – Join Our International Team at Europeade 2015!

Europeade Young dancersWould you like to be part of a core team helping create a fantastic folk dance & music event for thousands of European folk dancers and musicians in August this year?
If so, you might be the person we are looking for!

Between 5-9 of August 2015, Helsingborg welcomes some 6000 folk dancers from all around Europe to the 52nd Europeade Folk Dance Festival. In order to make this a great and memorable event for all our guests, we need your help. You don’t need any previous work experience, more important will be your interest in sharing a sense of joy, companionship and good hosting skills.

Because of our links to so many international people living in the area, Helsingborg International Connections has been asked to help the organisers find Volunteer Guides. We offer you a unique opportunity to expand your own network whilst supporting one of the international dance groups and taking part in activities during the festival. YOU will be one of the reasons why our guests feel welcome and part of an exciting European community!

The Europeade participants will be staying overnight in local schools. During the daytime they will participate in concerts and performances in and around Helsingborg. The City of Helsingborg will host a meeting area for volunteers at the Helsingborg Arena festival hub, as well as a craft market and Europeade photo exhibition.

During the evenings, you and the festival participants are invited to socialise at various festivities such as the official opening ceremony and evening dinners at Olympiahallen. You will be able to watch shows on the many stages located around Helsingborg, and finish off the week at the final festival ceremony.

How will you be able to help?

We are looking for Volunteer Guides with European language skills* and a good grasp of how things generally work in Sweden. You will be the host for one specific dance group during their whole stay, 5-9 August. Local knowledge of Helsingborg helps, but is not a requirement as there will be a 24/7 support team to help out with more specific questions. Chances are that you will make several good friends, and we know for sure that your group of guests will be very grateful for your time and effort!

As a host, you need to be available to your group during their stay, either in person or via phone/chat depending on the level of support required from them. You will welcome your group when they arrive in Helsingborg and travel with them to their accommodation. Every group has a coordinator, with whom you can agree when to meet up the next day, assist with any translation help, and give general information about Sweden and how things work here.

What kind of compensation can I expect as a Europeade Volunteer Guide?

  • Food & drink whilst on duty
  • Europeade T-shirt
  • Information meeting on Thursday 21 May, then information/training sessions on Monday 27 July, which will include First Aid and safety training
  • Diploma/certificate of work from The City of Helsingborg/Helsingborg Arena and First Aid certificate
  • Possibility to stay overnight at your group’s accommodation if you are not local to Helsingborg

This experience will be a valuable addition to your CV or personal statement by demonstrating your responsibility and commitment, and last but not least, it’s a great opportunity to expand your personal network! All guides signing up via HIC will be able to connect prior to and during the Europeade week though our social media channels.

As a volunteer guide, you need to make sure that you are available during the whole period, Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9 August, and for the information & training session on Monday 27 July (available at 09:00 -12:00 or 17:00-20:00).

Sign up as soon as possible (latest Sunday 19 July) using this link:

Once you have signed up we will get in contact with you in person so you get to know us: Sally & Jenny.

If you have any questions related to the above, please send an email to and we will get in touch with you.

Friday 24 April 18:00 – Mastering the Art of Effective Business Networking

Come and join us for an interactive, fun networking session at Spår 10 conference centre in Malmö!

eventsAnna Persson will provide you with valuable insight from her years of international work experience, with tips and tricks to tap into the power of networking in a way that fits your personal style. She also invites you to share your experiences from around the world – do’s and don’ts, what’s working and what’s not, depending on where in the world you have lived and worked.
Anna will be joined by representatives from global business networking association BNI, MiM (Marknadsföreningen i Malmö), one of southern Sweden’s largest networks for people who work with information, marketing, communication, advertising, etc., and Rotary International, whose good works have been supporting business and communities since 1905.
Since we are a truly international crowd, let’s explore what successful networkers have in common – although Woody Allen was credited with saying that “showing up is 80 per cent of life,” it’s that final 20 per cent that really makes the difference!

Anna’s Profile:

Anna is a LinkedIn trainer and career adviser with a background in HR and recruiting. In 2001 she decided to quit a well-paid job and move to Italy. Not knowing anyone and not yet speaking the language, networking became central to her new life, and since then Anna has introduced many others to the success of networking.

In Italy she worked as a recruiter and started a small e-commerce company. More importantly, she spent over seven years as Conference & Sponsor Account Manager, responsible for planning and organizing large scale global leadership conferences across Europe, working closely with major stakeholders from multinational companies, organisations, business schools and professional networks.

She has been inspired by many great people along the way and with such a passion for building relationships, it’s natural for her to use her own network to connect and help others. In April 2014 she inspired many of us with her talk at HIC’s Business and Networking in Sweden event, and we are delighted to have her as a guest speaker again!

Venue details: Zurich Room, Spar 10 Conference Centre, Centralplan 6, 211 20 Malmö

Finger/mingle food and coffee will be served at this event. Please notify us at if you would like a vegetarian option!

Sign up for this event here by 12:00 on Monday 20 April!
