Sunday 18 June 14:00 – Fika Picnic at Gröningen

We are joining forces with the International Women in Helsingborg group to enjoy a picnic fika and some fresh sea air at Gröningen!

We’ll meet at the pirate playground (Pirater i sikte) on Gröningen and find a picnic spot together close to it. It would be great if everybody could contribute something to the picnic. There’s also a vegan barbeque at the beach later, which you can go to afterwards if you are interested! If you can not find the group or you want to come later, this is Sabrina’s number: 0769016539. Let´s hope the weather stays nice and see lots of you on Sunday! There are also plenty of kiosks and facilities nearby if you need anything.

You can walk, cycle, drive or take bus number 8 to Helsingborg Margaretaplatsen. See you there!

Tuesday 31 January 16:30 – Meet Helsingborg International Connections

Today we visit Helsingborg Business Community at Mindpark to talk about the HIC network.

We’ll be joined by speakers from “The Invitation Department” (English translation) and CoderDojo, two organisations also working with networking, new skills and integration for international citizens. Come and hear what we are all about!

Invitationsdepartementet is a Swedish non-profit organisation that started in Stockholm but has now spread to the rest of Sweden and other European countries as well. The principle is simple: SFI students need to practice Swedish with a native speaker outside of school, so why not match a native Swedish speaker with someone who wants to learn more Swedish over a homemade dinner. Invitationsdepartementet (or the Invitation Department as it translates to English) is all about linguistic and cultural exchange.

CoderDojo is originally an Irish project run by volunteers who help teaching programming and coding to children. The waiting list to the CoderDojo sessions in Malmö is now over 300 kids long, but here in Helsingborg it is just starting to grow. The children who attend the events come from all over the world so most sessions are held in a mix of Swedish, English, and Arabic.

Helsingborg Business Community is a network of highly educated people who recently moved to the Helsingborg area for various reasons! Sweden has never before seen such an in-migration of highly educated people as they do now, and that is why HBC is working to connect these people to the local labour market.

Address: Helsingborg Business Community, Mindpark, Bredgatan 11, 252 25 Helsingborg

Friday 16 December 18:00 – International Pot Luck Supper

indian-foodBy popular request!

Sharing food together is one of the simplest and most natural ways to learn about other cultures and make new friends. Please help us make this a very special event by sharing a dish from your home country with other internationals at a festive time of year. Do you have a treasured family recipe that you would like to tell us about? We’d love to hear about it! We’ll make sure to spend some time talking about Swedish winter traditions too.

Please bring your dish ready to place on the buffet, as we don’t have any facilities to cook food at the venue.

Please write a litte note with the name of the dish and ingredients in case of allergies. If you can add your country’s flag or any other information, that would be even better!

We’re looking forward to a tasty evening!

Address: Drottninggatan 7A, 252 21 Helsingborg

Public transport: Nearest bus stop is Helsingborg Rådhuset and Helsingborg C train station is a 5 minute walk away

Wednesday 30 November 09:00 – International Coffee Morning

coffee-wafflesThe Parent Teacher Association at the International School of Helsingborg (ISH) have kindly invited us to join them for an international coffee morning at Linneaträdgården in Maria Park. There’s a cafe, garden centre and interior decorating shop which is filled with Christmas goodies this time of year!

Anyone with an international background or interest is warmly welcomed to come along for coffee and chat. We’ll have a cosy room to ourselves, just ask the staff on duty and they will point you in the right direction!

Address: Linneaträdgården AB, Mariehällsvägen 100, 254 50 Helsingborg. Telephone: 042 – 24 24 27

There is a lot of construction work going on near the cafe at the moment, which means that the usual Helsingborg Mariastaden bus stop is not in use. Please park by Hemakväll (Engelska Gången 4) or near the schools and walk across to the garden centre. Please let us know if we can help you with a lift share.

Please sign up on this Facebook link or email sally@hiconnections.eu if you would like to come.
